Sage 100  How To Erase Or Manually Recreate Data Files Using The Reinitialize Data Files Utility

Disclaimer

Use caution when working with the below product functionality. Always create a backup of your data before proceeding with advanced solutions.

Resolution

Warning: The Reinitialize Data Files utility is used to erase and initialize individual data files. Make a backup before reinitializing any files because this process is irreversible. This utility should ONLY be used under the direction of a Customer Support Representative.

How to manually Reinitialize Data Files:

Note: The Manual method is generally safer than the “How to reinitialize data files” procedure after it. A file cannot be manually reinitialized unless it is first renamed or moved. Accidentally reinitializing the wrong file is much less likely using this procedure.

  1. In Windows Explorer, open …\Mas90\MAS_xxx\yyxxx folder (where xxx = company code and yy = module code).
  2. Rename the applicable files to be manually reinitialized (for example, rename AR_InvoiceHeader.m4t to AR_InvoiceHeader.bad)

In Sage 100 ERP:

  1. Select Library Master, Utilities, Reinitialize Data Files
  2. Review the warning message, then select OK
  3. Click Manual button
  4. Type the file name (for example, AR_InvoiceHeader.m4t), press ENTER
    • NOTE: If reinitializing a legacy module file (i.e. Payroll, Job Cost, Work Order), the file name will include the applicable company code (i.e. pr6xxx.soa)
  5. Select Company Code
  6. Select Proceed

Note: If the file still exists, the message “File Already Defined” occurs. Either the wrong file was renamed in Windows Explorer (or the correct file in the wrong location), or the wrong file was specified in Reinitialize Data Files.

How to Reinitialize Data Files:
In Sage 100 ERP:

  1. Select Library Master, Utilities, Reinitialize Data Files
  2. Review the warning message, click OK
  3. Select Company Code
  4. Select Module
  5. Check the box next to each applicable file needed to be reinitialized
  6. Verify the correct files are selected
  7. Select Proceed
  8. Select Yes “Warning: The Reinitialize File utility will delete all information stored within the selected data files for the company XXX. Proceed with reinitializing?”

For Sage 100 ERP Premium:

Note: Make a backup of the database MAS_XXX and MAS_SYSTEM. Back up the MAS90 application folder directory. Consult your network administrator or database administrator for assistance.

  1. Select Library Master, Utilities, Reinitialize Data Files
  2. Review the warning message, then select OK
  3. Click Manual button
  4. Type the file name (for example, AR_InvoiceHeader.m4t), and press ENTER
  5. Select Company Code
  6. Select Proceed
  7. Select Erase when the “File Already Defined…” message occurs

Note: The old table is dropped, and a new table is created in the database.

Additional Information

If a file is reintialized, the file can only be restored from a backup.
