Sage 100 Bill of Materials Unapproved or Inactive

Resolution

In Sage 100, a bill of materials (BOM) may be considered “unapproved” or inactive if it is still in the design phase, replaced by another bill, or specifically marked as inactive to prevent it from being used in production. Engineering Change Control can be enabled to manage revisions, and inactive bills are generally restricted from use in production entries.

Here is a breakdown of how to manage unapproved or inactive BOMs in Sage 100:
Identifying and Setting Inactive BOMs

Engineering/Inactive Status: In Bill of Materials Maintenance, you can set a bill’s type to “Engineering” to indicate it is in the design stage or set it to inactive if it is no longer used.

Preventing Production: If you try to use an inactive bill, Sage 100 may generate errors, such as “you cannot use phantom/engineering/inactive bill types,” which is often used for items that have changed from “Make” to “Buy”.
