How to assign serial numbers or lot numbers to assemblies and disassemblies on Sage 300 Inventory Control
Steps:
- Open Inventory Control > I/C Transactions > Assemblies.
- Enter the assembly or disassembly transaction, as usual, and then save it. Inventory Control displays a Serial/Lot Numbers Generation/Allocation screen, which you use to generate or allocate serial numbers or lot numbers to items. (You generate or allocate numbers, depending on whether you are assembling or disassembling an item.) If you are working with an existing assembly, you can also click the Serials/Lots button to display the Serial/Lot Numbers Allocation/Generation screen.
- Tip: If you enter serial numbers or lot numbers manually in the following steps, make sure the numbers conform to the serial number mask or lot number mask assigned in the item record.
- To work with a serialized item, use the Serials tab to assign serial numbers, as follows:
- To add or assign the required serial numbers to the selected item automatically, click Auto-Gen.
- To add or assign one serial number at a time, in the Next Serial Number field, accept or change the number that appears, and then click Add.
- To enter serial numbers manually, click the first line in the table (or press the Insert key to start a new line), and then use the Finder in the Serial Number column to select the number from a list of serial numbers available for the specified location.
- Note: If you are disassembling a serialized item, you follow the same procedure, except you click Auto-Alloc (instead of Auto-Gen), and you use the Auto-Allocate From field (rather than the Next Serial Number field) to allocate numbers.
- To work with a lotted item, use the Lots tab to assign lot numbers, as follows:
- Lotted master items. For a master item, you can create only one lot. Assign a lot number in one of the following ways:
- To assign a lot number automatically, click Auto-Gen.
- To assign a specific lot number, enter it in the Next Lot Number field, and then click Add.
- To enter a lot number manually, click the first line in the table, and then use the Finder in the Lot Number column to select a lot from the list of lot numbers available for the specified location.
- Note: If you are disassembling a lotted master item, you follow the same procedure, except you click Auto-Alloc (instead of Auto-Gen), and you use the Auto-Allocate From field (instead of the Next Lot Number field).
- Lotted component items. For a component item, use the Make X Lots field or the Each Lot has X field to specify the required number of lots or the required quantity in each lot, and then:
- To assign the required lot numbers to the selected item automatically, click Auto-Alloc.
- To assign lots one at a time, accept or change the number that appears in the Auto-Allocate From field, and then click Add.
- To enter lot numbers manually, click the first line in the table (or press the Insert key to start a new line), and then use the Finder in the Lot Number column to select the lot from the list of lot numbers available for the specified location.
- Note: If you are disassembling a lotted component item, you follow the same procedure, except you click Auto-Gen (instead of Auto-Alloc), and you use the Next Lot Number field (rather than the Auto-Allocate From field).
- Lotted master items. For a master item, you can create only one lot. Assign a lot number in one of the following ways:
- Click Save to return to the underlying transaction in the I/C Assemblies/Disassemblies screen.
- Tip: Before you try to close the screen, refer to the count section at the bottom of the screen to make sure you have assigned the required number of serial and/or lot numbers.
- When you have finished entering the transaction, click Post.
